Our Story

At The Next Play Project, we believe sports are a powerful tool for connection. They create friendships, teach life lessons, and provide a sense of belonging when it’s needed most. Our story begins with the idea that through sports, we can build stronger, healthier communities.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: use the power of sports to break down the stigma around mental health and give kids a safe, supportive environment to thrive.

  • In the U.S., 1 in 5 teens struggles with a mental health challenge.

  • More than 40% of high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.

  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for teens and young adults ages 15–24.

These numbers show the need is urgent. We believe sports are a unique way to reach young people — creating community, building resilience, and opening the door for honest conversations about mental health.

Why “Next Play”?

In sports, the phrase “next play” means moving forward, no matter what happened on the last possession. In life, it means finding the strength to reset, recover, and keep going. The Next Play Project is about giving kids the tools and support they need to always take their next play.

What We Do

  • Youth Sports Events → Starting with 3v3 basketball tournaments that combine competition, fun, and life lessons. (Coming Soon)

  • Mental Health Awareness → Partnering with local leaders in Mental Health to bring the resources to the kids directly.

  • Community Connection → Creating an environment where players, parents, coaches, and volunteers unite for something bigger than the game.

Our Vision

We imagine a world where sports are more than a game, they’re a lifeline. A world where no kid feels alone in their struggles, and every young person has the tools and the team to keep moving forward.
